Stephanie Smooke Praw, MD Appointed Interim Clinical Chief in the Division of Endocrinology
The department of medicine (DoM) is pleased to announce that Stephanie Smooke Praw, MD has been appointed to interim clinical chief of the Division of Endocrinology in the Department of Medicine at UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM). Dr. Smooke Praw is an associate professor of medicine at DGSOM and serves as the fellowship director and director of education for the division of endocrinology. She will also serve as the director of the newly developed UCLA Thyroid Center and is a clinical endocrinologist at the UCLA Endocrine Center and the UCLA Gonda Endocrine Center. Her clinical research interests are related to thyroid disease and thyroid cancer. Dr. Smooke Praw has published her work in journals including the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM) and Endocrine Practice.
Dr. Smooke Praw is a member of multiple scholarly societies including American Thyroid Association, Endocrine Society, and the Association of Program Directors in Endocrinology and Metabolism (APDEM). Through APDEM, she partnered with other endocrine program directors in the development of an endocrine disease-specific health, equity curriculum. This curriculum addresses key gaps in knowledge related to addressing social determinants of health, and methods to advance health equity and is now being taught in endocrine fellowship programs across the country.
Dr. Smooke Praw earned her BA in History of Art at Yale University, MA in Japanese History of Art at the University College London, MD at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She completed internal medicine training and served as chief resident for the UCLA Department of Medicine followed by fellowship in endocrinology at UCLA. Since 2020, Dr. Smooke Praw has been recognized as a Super Doctor in the Los Angeles Times, one of Los Angeles Magazine’s Top Doctors, and a LA Business Journal Leader of Influence 2022 and 2023.Please join us in congratulating Dr. Smooke Praw as she assumes this new leadership role within the division of endocrinology.
