Patricia F. Harris, MD Appointed Clinical Chief of the UCLA Division of Geriatrics

The UCLA Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Patricia F. Harris, MD has been appointed clinical chief of the UCLA Division of Geriatrics, effective January 1, 2025.

Dr. Harris’ impact at UCLA has been apparent from the beginning of her tenure here. When she joined the faculty in 2013, she immediately launched the Geriatric Medical Home Visit Program, a home-based primary care program for frail elderly individuals that continues to serve patients near the Westwood and Santa Monica campus. Dr. Harris remains director of that program as well as the physician lead for UCLA Medical Group Primary Care at Home.

Prior to joining UCLA, Dr. Harris served as section head and fellowship director in geriatrics at the University of Southern California. She has also worked at the Georgetown-affiliated Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency; fellowships in geriatrics and women’s health; a public health degree; and her medical training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also attended graduate school in the history of science and medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree at Harvard University.

In her new role as clinical chief, Dr. Harris will continue to follow her interests in health services and in finding ways to provide care to those who can no longer come to the clinic or hospital. As we welcome Dr. Harris, we extend our gratitude to Grace Chen, MD who served as clinical chief for nearly ten years. Dr. Chen will remain in the division as a clinician educator and continue to be involved in opportunities to advance age-friendly care, wellness and DEI efforts.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to build on the foundation that Dr. Chen has nurtured for the past many years,” Dr. Harris said.

Please join the DoM in congratulating Dr. Harris as she assumes this new leadership role and thanking Dr. Chen for her service to the division.
