Lucky to Have Met My Physician and Surgeon

UCLA Health article

I received a total thyroidectomy and had 2 of my lymph nodes removed. Up until recently, I had no idea that there was an abnormality in my thyroid gland. Through my endocrinologist at UCLA Santa Monica, Dr. Shira Grock, I discovered a 2cm nodule in my thyroid. I am so thankful that she discovered this and for the surgery Dr. Yeh performed. After the surgery, I didn’t experience any pain, and didn’t even have to take the pain medication they prescribed me. I was able to eat solid food immediately following the surgery, which was great because they give you a menu to choose your meal. My advice to other patients would be to find good doctors along the way. Surgery inherently carries risks, so you want to make sure you’re in the best hands. After that, you can just relax and trust the process. I read many articles and watched videos before choosing the doctor, basing my judgements on experience and knowledge. I arrived at Dr. Grock and Dr. Yeh, who are my saviors. The first time I met Dr. Yeh, I asked him to promise me that he would be doing the surgery after I went under anesthesia. He promised, and even came up to my wife and son following surgery to let them know how the surgery went. The hospital staff went above and beyond, as the nurses frequently checked in on me to make sure I was doing okay. I would give it by experience 6 stars.
