Description
Dear Latino Physician community at UCLA, allies, mentors, supporters, students and trainees,
It is our pleasure to invite you to join UCLA HEDI and UCLA JEDI, along with the UCLA and DGSOM familia, in celebrating the accomplishments of our Latino Physicians on Tuesday, October 1st!
National Latino Physician Day, observed annually on October 1, is a day dedicated to acknowledging the significant contributions of Latino physicians to the field of medicine. This day also represents the need to address the Latino physician shortage crisis - while 40% of California's population is Latino (almost 50% in Los Angeles), only 6% of physicians come from this community. The mission of this day is to bring awareness to the Latino physician workforce gap-- so as to improve the quality of care for US patient populations, advocating for more Latino physicians who provide culturally and linguistically concordant care.
Please join us at the UCLA Neuroscience Research Building (NRB) on October 1st from 5pm to 7pm for an in-person celebration of National Latino Physician Day. We look forward to an evening of gifted and inspirational speakers from our UCLA familia, beautiful music, food, and fostering connection for the UCLA Latino/a community.
Please RSVP ahead of time so we can plan for food and refreshments.
REGISTER TODAY
We also invite our UCLA Latino faculty physicians across the campuses and community sites, to submit their bio and a headshot to be displayed during the celebration, as a way to honor them. If interested, please submit yours via this link: UCLA Physician highlight submission.
