Michael Lazarus, MD Appointed Editor-In-Chief of the Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine
The UCLA Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Michael Lazarus, MD has been appointed editor-in-chief of the Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine, the new title of the publication formerly known as the Proceedings of UCLA Health.
Dr. Lazarus is a hospitalist who has been a faculty member at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) for more than 20 years. He currently serves as medical director of the UCLA Hospitalist Community Practice Sites and was clinical chief of the UCLA Hospitalist Section from 2003 until 2023. His teaching awards include the UCLA Distinguished Teacher Award, the 2011 and 2018 DGSOM Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching, and Clinician Educator Award from the California-Hawaii chapter of the Society of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Lazarus was also awarded an honorary fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians, London, and serves as a Royal College of Physicians International Advisor for the Western United States. He is president of American College of Physicians' California Advocacy Services. As an educator, his interests include teaching physical examination skills, bedside teaching and clinical reasoning.
As we congratulate Dr. Lazarus on his new leadership role, we would also like to thank Robert Oye, MD, co-founder of the Proceedings of UCLA Health and professor emeritus at DGSOM, for leading the journal for nearly 30 years. We are deeply grateful for his contribution to the success of our department and for making the publication a powerful teaching tool for our medical community. Proceedings of UCLA Health has been critical to our faculty’s ability to produce scholarly work and document creativity in support of their professional growth at UCLA, a tradition that will continue as the journal evolves.
Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine will soon launch a dedicated channel on Cureus, an online medical journal platform. Proceedings of UCLA Health will remain active in parallel with the rebranded version until early 2025. Information on submissions, guidelines and more will be shared later this year.
