David S. Park, MD, PhD Appointed Section Chief of Electrophysiology

The UCLA Department of Medicine (DoM) is pleased to announce the appointment of David S. Park, MD, PhD as section chief of electrophysiology in the UCLA Division of Cardiology, effective July 1, 2026.

"It is an honor to lead this team of exceptional physicians and scientists in the Section of Electrophysiology at UCLA. Building upon UCLA’s rich history of innovation, we have an opportunity to redefine the future of arrhythmia diagnosis and treatment through new research initiatives and the integration of AI-driven clinical tools, all while remaining focused on delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.”

David S. Park, MD, PhD

Dr. Park joins the DoM from New York University (NYU) Grossman School of Medicine, where he served as an associate professor of medicine. At NYU, he held several key leadership roles including director of the Cardiac Arrythmia Service and director of the Cardiogenetics Program at Bellevue Hospital. In these roles, he led the development and expansion of multiple programs that strengthened care delivery within the electrophysiology service, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation programs, left atrial appendage occlusion program, leadless pacemaker and device extraction services, and a comprehensive cardiogenetics program. Dr. Park is also deeply committed to fellowship training and served as associate program director of the NYU Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship.

As a clinician investigator, Dr. Park leads an NIH-funded laboratory investigating transcriptional and genomic mechanisms that govern normal heart and rhythm development, with a focus on how their disruption leads to arrhythmias and congenital heart disease. His team has defined key signaling and transcriptional pathways governing atrial and His-Purkinje electrophysiology, identified conserved genomic mechanisms essential for cardiac outflow tract development, and translated these discoveries into novel cardiac therapeutics.

Dr. Park received his MD and PhD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his fellowship training in cardiac electrophysiology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

As we look ahead, we extend our sincere gratitude to Kalyanam Shivkumar, MD, PhD, for his leadership of the electrophysiology section as former section chief, and to Carlos Macias, MD for his service as interim section chief. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Park to the UCLA Department of Medicine this summer and partnering with him as he leads the continued growth of the electrophysiology section.
