Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine Launches on Cureus
The UCLA Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine, the department journal for documenting faculty creativity, is now live on the Cureus platform. We are grateful to the faculty and staff who worked diligently on this transition and to Proceedings founder Robert Oye, MD, who positioned the journal for enduring success.
The foremost mission of Proceedings continues to be the support of our faculty’s professional development. Its presence on Cureus, an open-access medical journal owned by Springer Nature, supports this goal by expanding the influence of our faculty's published work beyond UCLA.
Articles published in Proceedings are indexed on Medline and are visible to a large audience of physicians and scientists from institutions around the world. This opens the door to new collaborations and opportunities to transform patient care.
As a Cureus publication, all articles submitted to Proceedings will undergo peer review by two sets of subject matter experts, one group invited by the authors and another provided by Cureus. This additional rigor elevates the credibility of the publication, our scholarship and our faculty, all of whom can leverage this towards academic advancement within our department. We also encourage residents to collaborate with faculty in writing case reports for publication in Proceedings. These case reports are valuable teaching resources for our department and the broader community. Medical students are permitted to co-author publications but are not eligible to serve as peer reviewers.
As we launch this new chapter of Proceedings, you are welcome to contact Editor-in-Chief Michael Lazarus, MD or Associate Editors Dianne Cheung, MD, MPH and Ramya Malchira, MD with questions. You may also click below to access informational videos accompanying this announcement and the Proceedings FAQ for more information about submissions and peer review.
The department looks forward to sharing our scholarship with a wider audience and to expanding professional opportunities for faculty.
