The UCLA Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Dianne S. Cheung, MD, MPH and Ramya R. Dr. Cheung and Dr. Malchira will support the efforts of Editor-in-Chief Michael Lazarus, MD.
Dr. Cheung is an endocrinologist and associate clinical professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; she has been a faculty member of UCLA Health since 2012. Additionally, she serves as site director of the UCLA Telecytology Thyroid FNA Biopsy Pilot program, a unique initiative in which rapid fine needle aspiration biopsies to evaluate thyroid nodules for cancer are conducted during patients’ initial on-site visits at the Torrance endocrine office. Dr. Cheung is also principal investigator of industry-sponsored trials for novel drugs in lipid, obesity and diabetes management. She has served as a review editor for the Journal of Diabetes and an abstract reviewer for the Endocrine Society.
Dr. Malchira is a nephrologist, primary care physician and associate clinical professor based at UCLA Health Primary and Specialty Care in Santa Clarita, where she is clinical lead physician. In addition to her work at UCLA, she sees patients at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and sits on several committees there, including the Peer Review Committee and Appropriateness Review Committee. She also has served as medical director for DaVita Dialysis in Valencia since 2020. Dr. Malchira’s clinical interests include community education around chronic kidney disease and raising awareness about health and wellness in the context of disease prevention and treatment. She was nominated as a “Healthcare Hero” by Henry Mayo patients every year between 2017 and 2023.
Please join the department in welcoming Dr. Cheung and Dr. Malchira to their new roles. We look forward to sharing more updates on Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine in the coming weeks.
