Libby Shin Appointed Executive Director: Office of the Chair of Medicine, DGSOM and UCLA Health
The department of medicine (DoM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Libby Shin to a new role as Executive Director: Office of the Chair of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, and UCLA Health. As a member of the DoM senior leadership team, Libby will serve as the executive administrative partner to Chair and Executive Medical Director Dr. Abel. She is charged with managing a diverse portfolio of initiatives, including oversight for the development and implementation of the departmental strategic plan, management of leadership searches, and analytical and advisory support to the Chair and executive leadership team. Libby brings more than 15 years of experience and expertise in strategic planning and execution, change management, project management and process improvement to this new role.
Since 2018, Libby has served as our director of education, providing administrative oversight of our education programs. With a deep commitment to the education mission, she led the growth of our training programs by more than 20%; managed a ten-year accreditation site visit resulting in continued accreditation for the core residency program and thirteen subspecialty training programs; and developed new structures and processes to support our program faculty, staff, and trainees.
Previously, Libby was senior project manager for strategy and integration with Providence Health System. In this role, Libby led strategic, operational, and project planning related to initiatives that spanned the seven-state health system, including expansion of philanthropic programs, investment in a partner university, and organizational redesign efforts.
Libby is a current participant in the UC Women’s Initiative for Professional Development, and a past participant in the UCLA Healthcare Improvement Institute LEAN Academy. Libby earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
