"I’ve lost 100 lbs and gained many years of life." —Charlotte, Oxnard, CA

As a child, weight was never an issue. You could say I was thin as a rail. It wasn’t until my 20s and 30s that I started to gain weight. As with many people, I would diet, lose weight and gain what I lost and more back. The day I heard the words “pre-diabetes” and “high cholesterol” was the day I realized that I needed to do something. Seeing the success of someone I cared for who had bariatric surgery led me to seek more information about the surgery. I had to do something- not just for me, but for my family too.
UCLA COMET and Dr. Dutson was where I started. Dr. Dutson, Anna and Christine helped guide me in the right direction. By the time I made up my mind, I had every question I wanted and some questions I didn’t think of answered- the program, the diet, what to expect before, during and after surgery was covered so I could understand before the surgery date. I can’t say the journey has been easy, because it is a huge lifestyle change. But I will say that with the support of family, friends, Dr. Dutson, Anya and Christine, the journey has been successful and very rewarding.
Since my surgery, I haven’t had pre-diabetes or high cholesterol again. I have more energy. I’ve lost 100 lbs. and gained many years of life.
