I am the wife of a patient who recently underwent complex thoracic surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for removal of a lung cancer. We were reluctant to proceed with life-saving surgery due to his advanced age and very significant cardiovascular risk, but met with his anesthesia team one day prior to surgery and were reassured by the detailed and caring assessment and the plan that was developed for his intraoperative management. The anesthesia team, which included epidural anesthesia and a pain-management strategy, was brilliantly directed by Dr. Karen Sibert, who met with us before and following my husband's lengthly operation. She also followed up with us during his surprisingly brief hospitalization. His recovery from anesthesia was rapid and uncomplicated, a tribute to Dr. Sibert's skill and experience. We want to express our deepest appreciation to UCLA thoracic anesthesia and to the incomparable thoracic surgeon Dr. Jay Lee for such excellent, life-saving care!
