Light During Hard Times

“My brother’s been through a lot of bad things. He’s had surgery in his nose,” explains 10-year-old McKennan Griffith about her 11-year-old brother, Jack. The family is enjoying the annual UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital holiday party. McKennan continues, “This is a party where you can take pictures with famous people and have food. It’s a lot of fun.” Smiling, their mother, Angela Griffith says, “Jack had double pneumonia, which was a fungal infection. Then it spread to meningitis and went everywhere. He’s been on some really powerful antifungal pills, which made him really sick but saved his life. We’ve been here for a total of 11 weeks now. These events really shed some light on a hard time. They’re something to look forward to. I really appreciate that.”
