“As a dermatologist, I diagnose skin cancer multiple times every single day,” says Dr. Emily Newsom, assistant clinical professor at UCLA Division of Dermatology. “We’re promoting our sunscreen dispenser kiosks which are completely free to the public. UCLA Health partnered with the cities of Santa Monica and Malibu, Brightguard and IMPACT Melanoma, which is a nonprofit that promotes melanoma research. We provided 50 kiosks along the beach from Santa Monica to Malibu in order to help people protect themselves from the sun. Sunscreen has been shown to prevent skin cancer, and it’s really important to protect yourself because UV damage accumulates over many decades. If you protect yourself now, you’re going to prevent issues in the decades to come.”
