'Never Just a Fitting'

“Women are moved to tears because this is an opportunity for normalcy and to be seen,” says Angela Castro, a certified mastectomy fitter in the Reflections Boutique at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Angela, pictured right, continues, “For every single person, we are present because a fitting is never just a fitting. Even if a patient is here for 10 minutes, there is a story. It’s such a vulnerable time. Amazing things happen in our dressing rooms. People have closed the door and prayed. People have brought in evening gowns so we can give them input. People will come and sit in our chairs to have a safe space away from the hospital world. We’re really fortunate to have the patient interactions that we have, and we’re so lucky to have each other.”
