Blessing Surgeons Hands

“I’m happy to have my hands blessed,” says Dr. Bert Thomas, an orthopedic surgeon at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. “I saw someone standing by the door who didn’t appear to be doing anything other than holding the door open. I asked why she was doing that. She said, ‘I’m holding the door open because I’m hoping someone will come along to get their hands blessed.’ She asked me if I would like to have mine blessed and I said sure. I thought, ‘What better thing to have your hands blessed than for doing orthopedic surgery?’ It was very nice.”
