First Hospital Wedding
“This is my first hospital wedding,” says Joseph Hepburn, officiant and intensive care unit chaplain at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. “The patient is gravely ill, and he wants to have this marriage ceremony for his fiancée and three little children. I’ve spoken with both him and his fiancée. All the papers are signed and I think everything is set. I’m excited for the ceremony; I think they really deserve it. I’m glad I’m able to perform this service. I think it will be a therapeutic and healing event for the patient, spiritually and emotionally.”
