Midwifery Move
“I’m a Santa Monica mother, so I’m excited to bring this opportunity to my community,” says Erin DeTura, a nurse midwife at UCLA Health. “We moved our clinic from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood to UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. The move has been amazing. We’re able to give full midwifery care with a more focused, attentive, quiet space. I became a nurse when I saw the deficit in women’s health care. My mom was a midwife, and I saw how different birth could be, so I wanted to make a difference and be a change for women. At every birth, I look people in the eye and treat them like a human being. Even if they don’t have the birth they envisioned, they’ve had the respect that they deserved.”
