Dispelling Midwife Myths

By uclahealth

Dispelling Midwife Myths“I was so impressed by the midwives who took care of me when I was having my children that I decided sitting with women in labor and helping them give birth would be a lovely career,” says Elizabeth Keit, a certified nurse midwife at UCLA Health. “I want to give the highly personalized care that my midwives gave to me to other women. There is this myth that a midwife is an untrained country bumpkin, but the modern midwife is highly trained, in fact has a master's level of training in normal birth, and we are right up there with standards of care for caring for pregnant women in the modern world. Midwives help provide the kind of care and child birthing experience that you envision for yourself.”
