A second chance to live

By Markgolfer

Dr. Busuttil,

It has been a little over a year (August 30, 2016) since I had my liver transplant at UCLA. I am writing to express my utmost gratitude to you and your team for saving my life. I would not be here without your efforts. It is most impressive to me how dedicated you are to be able to run your department, manage your staff, speak internationally, and still perform surgeries! I want you to know how much I appreciated you coming to my room and providing encouragement from time to time. That was much needed as there certainly were many tough days. All the doctors were excellent and I want to particularly compliment the nursing staff in ICU. They were outstanding! My wife stayed with me in the hospital almost every night of my stay and the nurses could not have been more kind to her to make her feel comfortable.

My recovery has come a long way since my discharge. Physical rehab has helped me move from a wheelchair to a walker and now a cane. I still have a ways to go to be able to walk independently without the cane but I am confident with continued hard work, I will get there.

In closing, I just want to thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for giving me a second chance on life.
