5 North nurses
“All of our patients are really memorable,” says Hitomi Kalemkarian, pictured far left, a nurse in the geriatrics unit at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, for three years. Pictured left to right: Hitomi Kalemkarian, Anna Navarro, Valerie Yeo, Brena Aco, Rosia Villalpando, and Gines Bagar. Hitomi continues, “They’re elderly so they often need more assistance. We try to do more than just care for them medically; we also try to care for them socially. Like, is it safe for them to go home? Do we need to help refer them to a social worker or a department so they can get the care they need? We try to take care of them.”
