By uclahealth

13 Years old, 3 open heart surgeries"I had my first open-heart surgery when I was 2," says Donovan McKinnon, a 13- year-old patient at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Donovan was born with pulmonary atresia, a type of heart disease where the pulmonary valve is not formed properly. "I've had two other heart surgeries since and the third one was two or three days ago. I had a bacteria growing on my valve, so they had to replace it. They saw the bacteria on an echo. It could have been really bad. But I think I'm good for a while now, because a new valve is in. They're amazing. I don't think any other hospital could be this good."
