Every Delivery Counts
“I transport blood,” says Wyatt Jackson, who works to transport the blood donated at the UCLA Blood and Platelet Center at Ackerman Student Union to the UCLA Center for Health Sciences, where the blood is processed. “I grew up wanting to be in the medical profession, so it’s a dream come true that I’m able to use my gifts and talents to help a team that actually saves lives every day. I make sure Ackerman is fully supplied and stocked with everything they need for the day and then I transport the blood. I do about five pickups per day. A patient can use 10 units of blood, and each cooler only holds about 12 units of blood, so every unit and every delivery counts.”
