Though I had no symptoms, during a routine annual check-up, a 1.3 cm tumor was found and later diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinoma. Another doctor at another hospital suggested I have my entire thyroid removed. When I told a friend the recommendation from the first doctor, he said, "You should try UCLA for a second opinion." I researched and found Dr. Livhits. Dr. Livhits said she could remove the cancerous part of my thyroid and leave the rest. This sounded much better to me. Dr. Livhits explained the entire procedure step-by-step in an easy to understand way. My surgery was August 5. I spent one night in the hospital. All the nurses, caregivers, anesthesiologist and Dr. Livhits were very professional and explained every detail so I could completely understand as English is a second language for me. Recovery and healing has been going well. I have some pain still but take no pain medication. Dr. Livhits said the discomfort will subside. She will follow up with a blood test and ultrasound in another week. If any friend or anyone I know needs surgery I will definitely recommend UCLA.
