Loyal to Life Savers
Elaine Levy found out she had stage 4 polycystic kidney disease after getting a CAT scan of her lungs. She recalls, “They said, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry, you have bi-lateral PKD.’ I said, ‘That’s okay, I feel fine,’ not knowing exactly what it was I had. Of course, after I researched it, I realized just how serious it is.” Had it been caught any later, stage 5 polycystic kidney disease would have required her to go on dialysis. “I can’t thank UCLA enough for all they’ve done for me,” Elaine says. “All my care has been at UCLA. I have tremendous loyalty to this hospital. They’ve really saved my life.”
