Compassionate care through every phase of your birthing experience

As parents-to-be, Jacqueline Coit-Jablonski and her husband, Dan Jablonski, prepare for their first baby to arrive, they tour the new Labor and Delivery suites at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. They see first hand the new facility that offers women and their families a comfortable and technologically advanced healthcare setting aimed at providing a first-rate birth experience tailored to each mother's birth plan.

"Our mission is to be what our patients want us to be, in the context of their birth experience. We have a wonderful midwife practice here. All patients want different things, different environments of care and we are willing to work with them and give them that latitude. We want whatever makes their birth experience comfortable and enjoyable for them, but at the same time, [while ensuring] a safe birth experience," says Michael Johnson, M.D., Vice Chair, OB/GYN at UCLA.

The young couple visits the spacious and light-filled labor and delivery rooms, which include private bathrooms, sweeping views of Westwood, flat-screen televisions, XM satellite radio, sofa beds for dads and families to sleep over, and warming beds for the new babies.

They tour the postpartum unit, where mothers and infants are transferred following the birth. Among other amenities here, hotel-style dining for new mothers is available from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. They can order from a customized menu, and within 45 minutes a food ambassador will arrive with their personalized meals.

The day after they took their tour, Jackie and Dan welcomed their new baby boy, Evan. "We received excellent care," Dan says. "I can't be any happier as a father."

Nancy Escobedo, R.N., postpartum nurse, says, "Our hope is that they (new parents) go home with a healthy baby, that they felt they had a good experience here, and that they will come back for their next pregnancy."
